George W. Anderson

George AndersonGeorge W. Anderson joined the New York City Housing Police Department in January 1982, and began his career on patrol in Police Service Area (PSA) 5. He was promoted to Sergeant in December 1986; Lieutenant in August 1989; Captain in July 1994, and became a member of the NYPD during the merger of the Housing Police in 1995. He was promoted to Deputy Inspector in May 1998; Inspector in July 2000; Deputy Chief in August 2003; and Assistant Chief in August 2007. He has served in PSA 5, the Police Academy, the Personnel Bureau’s Staff Services Section, and in the Patrol Services Bureau.

Mr. Anderson has commanded the Personnel Bureau’s Staff Services Section and the Police Academy. He has served as the Executive Officer of the Personnel Bureau and the Police Academy. During his tenure at the Personnel Bureau, he served in a pivotal leadership position for perhaps the most challenging period in the history of that command. Nearly 40% of the Department was hired over that five year period, and then-Chief Anderson was a key figure in the introduction of many important programs to enhance the recruitment and investigation of police candidates.

In his role as the Commanding Officer of the Police Academy, Anderson introduced many innovative means to approach age-old training issues, including initiatives in the technology and leadership training areas that were well received and assisted the Department in meeting important training needs. In his role in the Patrol Services Bureau, then-Chief Anderson assisted the Chief of Patrol in the management of the largest bureau in the Department, serving as Deputy Incident Commander in large scale police incidents, and was responsible for administrative and operational oversight of Department programs and event planning.

After a 30 year career with the NYPD, Mr. Anderson retired to accept a position with AlliedBarton Security Services, the largest privately owned US-based security company. In his role as a Vice President, Operations in the NYNJ Region, he oversees a portfolio of government and commercial security services accounts with annual revenue in excess of $80M, with accounts in Manhattan, the Bronx, the Hudson Valley. He is currently the lead Program Manager for the Port Authority airport account, responsible for overall service delivery for John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark Airports.

Mr. Anderson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Studies from the University of the State of New York Regents College, a Master of Science degree in Instructional Technology from New York Institute of Technology, and a Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the State University of New York at Albany. He has served as an adjunct professor in the Law and Police Science Department at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, has been an affiliated faculty member of Penn State University in their Justice and Safety Institute, and has also served as a member of the Advisory Board for the School of Criminal Justice at Monroe College.

Mr. Anderson and his wife Kathryn, a pharmacist for Target, for 28 years, are the proud parents of Kaitlyn, who is a competitive Irish Step Dancer and has competed in the All—Irelands in Kerry. An avid skier, he is a member and advisor of the NYPD Ski Club, and also served for many years as the Headquarters Vice President of the NYPD Emerald Society. He is currently the Vice President of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 1, Monroe, New York. Mr. Anderson is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, serving as the Co-Chair of the Private Sector Liaison Committee, is a member of the New York State Association of Chief’s of Police, and is also the current Chair of the New York Chapter of ASIS International.
